<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y5Ls_e-z4B4/T1DTBly9zHI/AAAAAAAADTg/HTQ_hvE3dnE/s1600/alltogether.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y5Ls_e-z4B4/T1DTBly9zHI/AAAAAAAADTg/HTQ_hvE3dnE/s320/alltogether.jpg" width="218" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Today I have an exciting announcement to make. It has been a long time coming and writing this post makes me feel a little bit sad .... and a lot happy!! I'm sad because I'm saying "goodbye" to my old Bustle & Sew blog here on Blogger, where I have made lots of new friends and had lots of fun over the last few years.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But I'm happy because - at last - I have managed to bring various parts of Bustle & Sew together in one place, which I think will be a lot easier for everyone. My Bustle & Sew site has been taken apart and put back together again by some very clever people, and now includes <a href="http://bustleandsew.com/store/" target="_blank">pattern sales</a>, <a href="http://bustleandsew.com/magazine/" target="_blank">magazine page</a> and <a href="http://bustleandsew.com/blog/" target="_blank">my blog</a>, together with the beginnings of a <a href="http://bustleandsew.com/free-patterns/" target="_blank">new free pattern library and tutorials</a>. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am hoping that all my friends will come and browse around my patterns - which will now be delivered <span style="background-color: #ffe599; color: #cc0000;">INSTANTLY!!</span> (sorry, got a bit over-excited there) so no more waiting around for me to send you an email. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There are two new free guides for you ....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://bustleandsew.com/images/freepatterns/NavigatingYourDownload.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://bustleandsew.com/images/freepatterns/NavigatingYourDownload.jpg" width="163" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Navigating your download aims to demystify using e-patterns for the less computer-minded among us, and </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://bustleandsew.com/images/freepatterns/Transferring%20Your%20Pattern400w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://bustleandsew.com/images/freepatterns/Transferring%20Your%20Pattern400w.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
you'll also discover some helpful tips for transferring your design to fabric. You'll find both of these on my <a href="http://bustleandsew.com/free-patterns/" target="_blank">FREE PATTERNS PAGE</a>. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thank you everyone for supporting my clearance sale over on my Etsy shop. I am now all "sold-out" so I have closed for a few days to dust down the shelves, have a good tidy-up and then re-stock with lovely Bustle & Sew patterns. Patterns are still available on <a href="http://www.bustleandsew.com/" target="_blank">my website</a>, if your fingers are itching to stitch and you can't wait to start an exciting new project! </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's been a hectic few days altogether for me - at the weekend Townie Husband and I went up to Bristol to help Rosie move. This also included several trips to Ikea (me) and assembling flat-pack furniture (him)! While I was in Ikea with Rosie I was very interested to see how they sell their fabric. The bolts were stacked on shelves, for you to take down and measure the amount you wanted - but they didn't charge by length, but by weight! I guess this was to account for wonky cutting by the less experienced. Rosie of course is a big fan of Rosali, so we came away with a nice length in blue. I am pleased to report that the cushion I made was well-received and will be taking pride of place on the sofa when all the unpacking is finished.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hIVp1ThdZag/T0fG2UvneiI/AAAAAAAADSQ/kF-CbtyPx1I/s1600/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="326" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hIVp1ThdZag/T0fG2UvneiI/AAAAAAAADSQ/kF-CbtyPx1I/s400/013.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Don't forget, you can <a href="http://bustleandsew.com/free-patterns/" target="_blank">download the free pattern here</a> if you haven't done so already. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Meanwhile, returning to the subject of knitting .. it's always been a great way for me to relax. I learned to knit at a very early age, probably about 8 or 9 and was very proud of my first achievement, a rather wonky knitted teddy in garter stitch! I feel lucky that knitting remains a fun pastime though - I have many childhood memories of my mum unravelling outgrown school jumpers, washing the wool in skeins to relax the crinkles, then rewinding (often with my help) and knitting into new woollies. I don't think this would have been much fun - though it was certainly economical and eco-friendly!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-frtz_m1H2LQ/T0y7Ho2jmTI/AAAAAAAADS4/vmYH-DH3EXw/s1600/Dandelion.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-frtz_m1H2LQ/T0y7Ho2jmTI/AAAAAAAADS4/vmYH-DH3EXw/s400/Dandelion.jpg" width="391" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Dandelion</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But I can knit for fun! I used to love making little cardigans and jumpers for Rosie when she was a toddler, but these days she isn't quite so thrilled by the idea of a cardigan with sparkly buttons and dancing mice (my hardest challenge for her)! It's fun making Easter bunnies for other little ones to enjoy though ... and I'd like to introduce you to my first batch this year ...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here are Dandelion and Catkin ... and in the picture at the top of this post you can also see Primrose, Poppy and Teasel. They're all knitted in good quality natural fibres and measure between 10" and 12" tall.</div>

I don't make very many knitted toys as I want to keep my knitting as something I do to relax, but I am hoping to complete another two or three bunnies before Easter. I'll let you know when they're listed - it will be towards the end of the week when I re-open my Etsy shop. </div>Helenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07428082800675241347noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1725169637555911547.post-50131970105614448632012-02-27T14:01:00.001+00:002012-02-27T14:01:22.950+00:0050% Clearance Sale on Etsy<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As part of the general spring-clean and tidy-up that's happening here at Bustle & Sew at present (for reasons which will be revealed very soon) I have decided to have a clearance sale over in my Etsy Shop. I am not closing my shop, but I have come to the conclusion that it has become a little muddled and untidy, so I want to clear the shelves of surplus stock before I have a little bit of a reorganisation and update.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you'd like the chance to snap up a bargain please head on over there and enter the code "SPRING" at checkout for your 50% discount on all purchases. It really is first-come, first-served as once something's sold, I won't be relisting it until after the sale has ended. And some patterns will be retired altogether. So don't delay... head on over to <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/BustleandSew" target="_blank">Bustle & Sew on Etsy</a> as soon as you can!</div>Helenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07428082800675241347noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1725169637555911547.post-73000467864922653592012-02-24T17:25:00.000+00:002012-02-24T17:25:57.361+00:00Free funky chick pattern .. but sshhhh - don't show Rosie!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--VH-3Vh5bhQ/T0fF76zSJEI/AAAAAAAADSI/1Cr1QGHJ590/s1600/015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--VH-3Vh5bhQ/T0fF76zSJEI/AAAAAAAADSI/1Cr1QGHJ590/s400/015.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I mentioned in my last post that I'd acquired a large box of vintage patterns with dates ranging across the 20th century. Last time I shared one of the earliest, and now I'd like to share one of the later ones with you... but don't tell Rosie!! I've chosen this really funky 1970s bird and incorporated it into a simple patchwork cushion for her new flat which I'll be giving her next week. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I think you can see the pattern more clearly in this picture. I chose a cheerful, vibrant selection of colours - in a blog I was reading somewhere (can't remember who, so if by any small chance you're reading this, thank you) I came across the description "Electric Melon" which I think describes them really well. If you'd like the pattern, then <a href="http://issuu.com/bustleandsew/docs/funkychickembroidery?mode=window&viewMode=singlePage" target="_blank">you can download it here</a> - it's absolutely free. Hope you like it! But don't show Rosie - not until next week anyway!</div>Helenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07428082800675241347noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1725169637555911547.post-36483872480784398362012-02-20T16:34:00.001+00:002012-02-20T16:36:39.010+00:00Free Vintage Pattern for you<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Just a very quick post to say "sorry" for being so late with the results of the <a href="http://bustleandsew.blogspot.com/2012/02/love-is-part-one-free-giveaway-to-enter.html" target="_blank">Lovely Mouse Kit Giveaway</a>. The winner (chosen as always by random selection) is number four - who is .... Susan of the Krafty Cupcake! Well done Susan and thank you to everyone else for entering - I wish I had a kit for everyone. </div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But everyone can share the pattern at the top of this post... A little while ago I acquired an old chocolate box stuffed with what turned out to be 60 years worth of transfers, ranging from 1904 to the late 1960s/early 70s. Most I have seen before, but the one at the top of the post is new to me - it is dated 1918 and reminds me of Kate Greenaway's designs. I hope you like it - and it's free - just click on the link under the image to download.<br />
<br />

... says Mrs East. "And I've something to show for it afterwards." Well this is true - one of the pleasures - for me anyway - of stitching is that I have something to show for all my efforts. Mind you, if I held my needle & hoop like Mrs East then I think I would also have a headache, squint and stiff joints after stitching! Or maybe I just do it wrong?!? But seriously, I do enjoy the work of earlier generations of stitchers and so <a href="http://www.bustleandsew.blogspot.com/p/whats-in-februarys-magazine.html" target="_blank">March's Bustle & Sew Magazine</a> includes an article on repurposing vintage linens - with some inspirational ideas from current-day bloggers too. </div>

<b><span style="color: #cc0000;">Valentine's Day is of course all about romance. But loving doesn't have to stop when you flip the calendar to February 15th. And to help spread the love I'm offering a "Lovely Mouse" kit as a giveaway prize</span></b>. I don't usually offer kits, but I'm thrilled to announce that I've got together with <a href="http://thefeltfairyuk.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Annie the Felt Fairy</a> to offer a selection of Bustle & Sew softie kits. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As our first offering, Annie has put together a really nice kit for the "Lovely Mice" containing all those fiddly bits that you never seem to have to hand when you're setting out to make a softie. So there's wire for the flower stalk, strong thread for their whiskers and even string for their cute little tails. Each kit contains the ingredients for one mouse. It's never been easier to show someone you love them!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #cc0000;">I've listed the Lovely Mice Kits for sale in my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/92514997/lovely-felt-mouse-softie-kit" target="_blank">Etsy Shop</a>, but blog readers can have the chance to win one for free simply by leaving a comment below. </span></b> The draw will close at 12 midnight GMT on Friday 17 February after which the winner will be chosen by random selection. And, just for fun (my favourite bit!) please tell us your favourite colour (you can get some ideas from <a href="http://thefeltfairyuk.blogspot.com/p/felt-colours-30-wool-blend-felt.html" target="_blank">Annie's colour chart pag</a>e). <a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ttp8U8SYy30/TzAT78vwaSI/AAAAAAAADQA/Gs2h3ye8WMw/s1600/Queen+for+60+years+detail+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ttp8U8SYy30/TzAT78vwaSI/AAAAAAAADQA/Gs2h3ye8WMw/s400/Queen+for+60+years+detail+1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Before I tell you the exciting news - I would just like to thank everyone who told me their own shaggy dog stories - it appears that Ben is not alone in behaving badly when he thinks he's being ignored! I would also like to mention that he had in fact been for a very nice walk earlier in the day - had been given a lovely chew that morning and, as always, had received lots of fuss and petting. So there was absolutely no justification for his behaviour!! But yes, I do still love him and he was forgiven very quickly (though I still haven't found that pompom!).</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Moving swiftly on ... I am so enjoying completing the final bits of hand quilting on my Rosie & Bear calendar quilt - as I stitch I am imagining the little fingers of grandchildren and great-grandchildren yet to be tugging the quilt around them and enjoying the different pictures. Commemorative quilts are also tradtional heirloom pieces - and so I am creating a new set of quilt blocks in honour of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QPrJKYSbcaA/TzAUjqcaMII/AAAAAAAADQI/Ibj0X-h3q7E/s1600/Queen+for+60+years+square.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QPrJKYSbcaA/TzAUjqcaMII/AAAAAAAADQI/Ibj0X-h3q7E/s320/Queen+for+60+years+square.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This year Queen Elizabeth II has reigned for an amazing 60 years - longer than I've been alive! And what
a changing world she has seen since ascending to the throne in 1952. But one
tradition that hasn't changed is that of making commemorative quilts - and I
thought a Rosie & Bear quilt would be a wonderful way of celebrating this
special year. The quilt will be made up of 12 blocks - the two centre blocks will
show Rosie & Bear with the Royal Arms (that's the image above) and details
of the Queen's titles and dates. The remaining 10 blocks will each depict
a Commonwealth Country, with a special bonus design depicting the USA - to
reflect the special relationship that has flourished between Britain and the US
during the Queen's reign.</div>

India and Mozambique. You can purchase the Coat of Arms block in my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/BustleandSew?ref=si_shop" target="_blank">Etsy shop</a>,
but the other blocks will not be available to purchase separately. I am issuing them as a special free partwork supplement to the Bustle & Sew Magazine
for magazine subscribers only. The March Issue (out on 23 February) will
contain the first three blocks and with a further two blocks issued each month
until August when the final block, together with instructions for creating your

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QV0xPPT9b-w/TzKkc2I_KyI/AAAAAAAADQk/_ZfCH_0oMFk/s1600/lannacombe+013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QV0xPPT9b-w/TzKkc2I_KyI/AAAAAAAADQk/_ZfCH_0oMFk/s400/lannacombe+013.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I was very much hoping to be able to tell you today that I had finished my <a href="http://bustleandsew.blogspot.com/2012/02/busy-afternoon-ahead.html" target="_blank">Rosie & Bear Calendar Quilt</a>. I sat down yesterday with cup of tea and audio book and soon became totally absorbed, both by my sewing and the rather exciting murder mystery plot I was listening to. But ... while I was happily occupied .. someone was feeling rather bored and neglected and was plotting his revenge. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
After about an hour I decided to head downstairs to put the kettle on for more tea. I was going to give Ben a doggie choc for being such a good quiet boy. But he did not receive his doggie choc. This was because I was totally horrified by the sight that met me as I descended the stairs. Ben had clearly decided that his beautifully made bed - a waterproof (for those swimming days) mattress topped by two freshly washed old woollen blankets - no longer met his requirements. The blankets had been pulled off the bed, and tossed around the hall where his bed is and now looked rumpled and scrumpled and decidedly grubby again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
That in itself was not so bad. BUT ... Rosie gave him a lovely grey teddy with a squeaker and red Santa hat for Christmas. That teddy had died while I was sewing. It appeared as though there had been a snowstorm in the hall - fluffy filling was EVERYWHERE, whilst a few rags of grey fur and a sad tattered hat lurked in the corner. I have not yet discovered the pom pom off the top of the bear's Santa hat and can only assume it has been EATEN. By the time I had finished telling Ben off (he didn't care) and had cleared up I didn't feel like sewing any more, so my quilt is not quite finished.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BW9T0AKjEoo/TzKkemysOsI/AAAAAAAADQs/Wvf5eQO-JtA/s1600/circus+lion+full.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BW9T0AKjEoo/TzKkemysOsI/AAAAAAAADQs/Wvf5eQO-JtA/s400/circus+lion+full.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
But I have finished revising and updating my Circus Lion machine applique tutorial. I've been using this really effective and fun technique a lot lately, one of the patterns for this month's magazine, the China Cats cushion cover, incorporates machine applique. So I've added additional hints and tips as well as additional pictures to the pattern-based tutorial. I'll be sending it out to my free newsletter readers at the weekend, so if you'd like it and you're not a subscriber, then please <a href="http://forms.aweber.com/form/44/951247444.htm" target="_blank">do sign up to my free newsletter</a> and it will be heading towards your in-box very soon. </div>Helenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07428082800675241347noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1725169637555911547.post-42722777729061907862012-02-07T12:18:00.000+00:002012-02-07T12:18:33.401+00:00Busy afternoon ahead....<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

A very quick snap ... as I sat down to finish binding my Rosie & Bear Calendar Quilt (helped by Charlie the patchwork elephant!). Not a brilliant photo, but good enough I think that you can see how it's coming together. Lots of cups of tea required to help me finish it off - and some peace and quiet please Ben! </div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Today is the 60th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II to the throne following the death of her father, King George VI in 1952. This new Rosie & Bear design celebrates this special day and is the first in a new series of quilt blocks, to be released over the next 8 - 10 weeks, commemorating her Diamond Jubilee - both as Monarch of the British and Commonwealth Realms and Head of the Commonwealth of Nations. There will also be a special "extra" block to celebrate the Special Relationship between the UK and USA during this period as well. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QPrJKYSbcaA/TzAUjqcaMII/AAAAAAAADQI/Ibj0X-h3q7E/s1600/Queen+for+60+years+square.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QPrJKYSbcaA/TzAUjqcaMII/AAAAAAAADQI/Ibj0X-h3q7E/s400/Queen+for+60+years+square.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 18px;">In this first block, Rosie and Bear are both on their very best behaviour (see how straight Bear is sitting - and Rosie has clearly been told to put her hands behind her back and not touch anything!). But knowing the naughty pair, I'm sure this good behaviour won't last as they take a trip around some of the Commonwealth countries and visit the USA in future blocks.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 18px;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 18px;">This pattern <i>will </i> be included in the March Issue of the <a href="http://bustleandsew.blogspot.com/p/whats-in-februarys-magazine.html" target="_blank">Bustle & Sew Magazine</a> - out in just over 2 weeks, but I have exceptionally decided to list it before the magazine is published in honour of Accession Day today. If you'd like to purchase it then you'll find it in my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/92363966/rosie-bear-queen-for-sixty-years-diamond" target="_blank">Etsy Shop</a>. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 18px;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 18px;">Back soon with more news of the Rosie & Bear Calendar Quilt too - Ani and her long arm quilting machine have worked wonders - can't believe how beautiful she's made it look - now all I have to do is bind it. </span></div>Helenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07428082800675241347noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1725169637555911547.post-75643379170114560242012-02-03T11:42:00.000+00:002012-02-03T12:03:50.541+00:00And the winner is ...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

(chosen by random selection as always) Number 54!! That's<span style="color: #e69138;"><b> Papgena Made It!!</b></span> Well done Papgena, I've already emailed you - please get in touch and Edward will be on his way to you as soon as I have your address. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thank you to everyone else for entering, I loved reading about all your signs of spring ... particularly as winter seems finally to have joined us with temperatures well below freezing at night, and only climbing a very little during the day. Ben is ecstatic - he adores this frosty weather and would sleep all day on the very cold stones of the courtyard at the back of the house if allowed. Needless to say I won't let him spend more than 15 minutes at a time out there - after he was so poorly a couple of weeks ago I am not taking any chances with his health. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
At least this cold weather comes with sunshine - so everywhere is bright and sparkly and, above all, colourful - I so dislike the horrible grey, dull days that seem to drain the colour from the whole world.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4Y6iTBWUE5o/Tyu92zetHaI/AAAAAAAADPo/eouA-IYh0zw/s1600/jigsaw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="280" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4Y6iTBWUE5o/Tyu92zetHaI/AAAAAAAADPo/eouA-IYh0zw/s400/jigsaw.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Colour is very important to me and I love the way the colours around me change as the seasons progress. I am also very fond of this little vintage calendar jigsaw that illustrates the natural year so well. I don't know how old it is, and I can't remember how I acquired it, but it's such a clever learning device ... counting 1 -12, learning your months of the year, and the names for British flowers through the seasons (identified on the inside of the box lid). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Even the backgrounds are colour coded - blue shading into pale green for spring, then yellow for summer moving through orange, plum and finally back to blue as we return to winter in December. The flowers depicted are those I see on my daily walks with Ben - and yes, it's February and the gorse is in blossom with its delicate coconut fragrance. I have already seen daffodils and primroses though - but I think this current cold snap will make them wish they'd remained below-ground a little longer!</div>

And finally ... my <a href="http://bustleandsew.blogspot.com/2012/01/ben-in-his-usual-habitat-last-thursday.html" target="_blank">China Cats</a> design is beginning to take shape ...in spring colours of course. Machine applique combined with touches of hand embroidery and a slightly vintage feel. This design is a little more fiddly, but uses the very same techniques as my "<a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/91425107/stitch-applique-sewing-machine-cover-pdf" target="_blank">Stitch" sewing machine cove</a>r ...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
... and I'm carefully writing out detailed step-by-step instructions so it is as easy as can be!</div>

<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZvAv-YqvIto/TyV_Mu1gSII/AAAAAAAADO8/Z0QDdUDXs7I/s1600/044.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZvAv-YqvIto/TyV_Mu1gSII/AAAAAAAADO8/Z0QDdUDXs7I/s400/044.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ben in his usual habitat!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Last Thursday I went into Kingsbridge and, unusually, decided to take Ben along. He hadn't been at all well the previous weekend and although he was much better by then I didn't want to leave him home alone. In fact he had been very poorly indeed all one night with a high temperature and vomiting. At one stage he couldn't even keep water down and I was very worried about him, so spent a sleepless night on the sofa next to him, gently smoothing his fur and dampening his hot nose with a cool flannel. <br />
<br />
Eventually he fell into a deep sleep from which he emerged some hours later on the road to recovery. He was able to drink again on Sunday and by Monday was a bit weak and wobbly but certainly much more like his usual self. Today, a week later, he is fully recovered. I still don't know what caused his illness, but I suspect he might have picked up some poison when rummaging around the hedgerows around on his walks. Could be sheep dip, or rat bait - I just don't know. He's well again and that's all that matters.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k6q88a1cEA8/TyWBgLcf3fI/AAAAAAAADPE/M8a3YgxASes/s1600/Amy+masters+the+stairs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="371" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k6q88a1cEA8/TyWBgLcf3fI/AAAAAAAADPE/M8a3YgxASes/s400/Amy+masters+the+stairs.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Amy was a very girly Newfoundland who loved shopping</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyway, I was going to tell you about shopping - with Ben. So not a good idea. Such a very bad idea in fact. Amy, my previous newfie, used to adore shopping. She was the only dog I have ever owned that would actually check out her own reflection in shop windows - something I thought only teenagers were obsessed with doing! <br />
<br />
She would wait patiently outside any shop for me, content to accept all the pats and tummy tickles she would receive whilst I was away, and if I took too long, would casually stroll inside to locate her missing human. (It was very embarrassing the time that she appeared through the changing room curtains - pulling them wide open with her furry body - but that is a different story). </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ben is quite different. He is a typical male and totally hates shops. He drags his paws and lags behind, squeals and cries when left outside and totally ignores his admiring public (how rude). But I hardened my heart to his tears and tantrums, promised we would visit the pet food shop on the way back to the car, then tied him up and "abandoned" him outside the Oxfam bookshop - one of my favourite destinations in Kingsbridge. (don't worry I could see him through the window all the time I was inside). <br />
<br />
Whilst he wailed and whined, making sure everyone knew what a cruel owner I was to leave him like that, I was rewarded by discovering this little book ...</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">China cats and daffodils</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
.. called "China Cats and Other Beasts in Rhyme". The photo doesn't really do it justice, it's a very slim volume printed on lovely heavy paper with hand cut pages. The author is Kathleen Conyngham Greene and upon googling her I discovered that she was born into an aristocratic family in 1885, and had a number of works published in the 1920s and 30s. Excitingly, this copy of her poems is signed by her ... a real treasure for just under £3 (about $4.40). I love the first verse of the title poem: China Cats ...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><span style="color: #6aa84f;">"I brought two cats from China,</span></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><span style="color: #6aa84f;">Their eyes are round and green, </span></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><span style="color: #6aa84f;">Their tails are twisted up behind,</span></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><span style="color: #6aa84f;">And so they can't be seen;</span></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><span style="color: #6aa84f;">Their coats are spotted, white and black,</span></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><span style="color: #6aa84f;">Their little paws are grey,</span></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><span style="color: #6aa84f;">They sit upon the mantelpiece</span></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><span style="color: #6aa84f;">To keep the mice away."</span></i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
...can't you just imagine those cherished china cats so long ago? Then, co-incidentally, while googling "China Cats," I also came across this adorable image from the British Postal Museum and Archive ....</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">China dogs</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Although it's of dogs, not cats .. the two combined have given me insipration for a new pattern and I can hardly wait to start working on it tomorrow. So it was worth taking Ben shopping after all, particularly as I also came home with that lovely bunch of daffodils!</div>Helenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07428082800675241347noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1725169637555911547.post-34745276451124303372012-01-25T17:41:00.000+00:002012-01-25T17:43:19.275+00:00Little Bunnies Giveaway for You<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Phew ... I have been working so hard on this <a href="http://www.bustleandsew.blogspot.com/2012/01/february-magazine-signs-of-spring.html" target="_blank">month's edition of the Bustle & Sew Magazine</a> - the Signs of Spring Issue. It's a proper bumper issue with two Rosie & Bear patterns, applique sewing machine cover, felt mice, weekday elephants vintage embroidery, plus articles on colour, sashiko and pressing your project. Not to mention "Sewing for Schoolgirls" - a wonderful extract from a vintage annual of 1923! All this for just $5.50 for subscribers! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The magazine is published tomorrow - and in <b><span style="color: #e06666;">celebration I thought I would offer Albert and Edward the two little felt bunnies as giveaways</span></b>. Dressed in their lovely spring outfits in beautiful pastel shades Albert (in the little knitted jumper) is up for grabs on Facebook, whilst you can enter to win Edward (very smart in his felt jacket) here on the blog (if you want to enter both, that's fine). <b><span style="color: #e06666;">To enter here on the blog, please just leave a comment below telling us your favourite sign of spring (just for fun). </span></b> Closing date is Tuesday 31 January at midnight (GMT) and the winner will be chosen by random selection. I am happy to post overseas.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'll be listing all the patterns from the magazine in my Etsy shop over the next couple of days, but if you're thinking about subscribing remember it's a bargain - patterns worth over $16 for just $5.50!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #e06666;">Good luck in the draw!</span></b></div>Helenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07428082800675241347noreply@blogger.com61tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1725169637555911547.post-64611483281553242902012-01-23T18:58:00.000+00:002012-01-23T19:29:27.554+00:00February Magazine: Signs of Spring<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NWDwt3_cdWA/Tx2oVjqrUgI/AAAAAAAADNc/X_YLdEtWCCw/s1600/028.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="327" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NWDwt3_cdWA/Tx2oVjqrUgI/AAAAAAAADNc/X_YLdEtWCCw/s400/028.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I heard in the news the other day that here in England we have had the mildest winter on record. I may have misunderstood - but I think the presenter said that temperatures have been generally 14 degrees above average! Wow!! It's true that we have had no more than a couple of frosts down here in South Devon, and in my garden there are grape hyacinths - the tiny little ones with such an intense blue colour, the camellia is bursting its buds and even very early primroses - unheard of in January. All this after the coldest winter on record last year. It is no wonder that we English people are so obsessed by the weather!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_tYvKuNFqOM/Tx2o83hVOHI/AAAAAAAADN8/Jkk6LXgxGsk/s1600/cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_tYvKuNFqOM/Tx2o83hVOHI/AAAAAAAADN8/Jkk6LXgxGsk/s400/cover.jpg" width="287" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And the weather, as well as the changing seasons around me strongly influences the colours and fabrics I choose to work with - and so this month's Bustle & Sew Magazine is full of early signs of spring. That's the cover above with Albert the Bunny (thinking ahead to Easter) and one of the little Lovely Mice next to him...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
.. and here are the Two Lovely Mice. There's also a double helping of Rosie and Bear in the magazine ...</div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Wn-hfh7WyFM/TxfKLZ7PsSI/AAAAAAAADNE/3fCgCBuJuz4/s1600/lovebirds+cushion.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="368" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Wn-hfh7WyFM/TxfKLZ7PsSI/AAAAAAAADNE/3fCgCBuJuz4/s400/lovebirds+cushion.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I had a very nice email a couple of days ago from a lovely blog follower called Kathleen who had been searching for the pattern for this cushion. It had gone astray somewhere and she couldn't locate it anywhere. As Valentine's day will soon be here now seemed an appropriate time to upload it once more - this time to my free pattern library. It's actually my own interpretation of a vintage embroidery pattern - and you will find the <a href="http://issuu.com/bustleandsew/docs/lovebirds_cushion_pdf_file?mode=window&viewMode=singlePage" target="_blank">pattern here</a>.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eV1KM4vr8ec/TxfKOO2hlcI/AAAAAAAADNM/uwKO6qK1K2c/s1600/owls+in+love.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eV1KM4vr8ec/TxfKOO2hlcI/AAAAAAAADNM/uwKO6qK1K2c/s400/owls+in+love.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Still on the lovebirds theme - the Owls in Love pattern is one of my own designs, it's so simple to stitch and just right for Valentine's day - it isn't one of my free patterns, but is available to purchase from both my <a href="http://www.bustleandsew.com/Product-118/Applique/Owls-in-Love" target="_blank">website</a> and<a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/65490123/owls-in-love-applique-pattern-for-pillow" target="_blank"> Etsy shop</a>. Just had to include it here .. it's one of my all-time favourites!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I also had a lovely comment from someone (sorry forgot to note down your name) who tells me they follow this blog not for the stitching, but because they are in love with Ben. I am sure he would say this is entirely understandable, and so on this grey and rainy day I will leave you with another photo taken on Monday's walk when the day was sparkling and blue, and there was lots of fun to be had leaping around in rockpools..</div>

According to the UK media, today is "blue Monday" when we are all supposed to feel miserable - Christmas is over, spring and summer are so far away and all December's bills are arriving on the doormat. Well, I disagree. I don't feel miserable at all today, for three very good reasons indeed ....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #cc0000;">Firstly,</span></b> my cold has disappeared and I feel well again. No more sneezing or snuffling, though that nasty tickly cough still makes an appearance from time to time. Thank you so much once more to everyone who sent me lovely get-well wishes - this time they worked!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rb8wzatUa-w/TxRQ1dNN49I/AAAAAAAADMg/HurmtkOteY4/s1600/full+set.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rb8wzatUa-w/TxRQ1dNN49I/AAAAAAAADMg/HurmtkOteY4/s400/full+set.jpg" width="308" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #cc0000;">Secondly ... </span></b> Blue Monday is good because I have finished my set of 12 Rosie & Bear calendar blocks!! Yes, every month of the year is now represented: there's snowballing in January, lambs in March, blossoms in May and rain in November. I will be offering the complete set of 12 together with the pattern for creating the Rosie & Bear Calendar Quilt (extra-easy patchwork of course) very soon indeed. (for those who have been collecting the blocks over the last 12 months, don't worry - February and March will be included in this month's magazine, after which I'll be listing the remaining blocks individually).<br />
<br />
I'm just finishing putting the top together, then tomorrow a lovely lady called <a href="http://www.anicatt.co.uk/" target="_blank">Ani Cat</a>t will be taking the top for long arm quilting at her studio in East Prawle. <b>If you'd like to pre-register your interest in the Rosie & Bear Calendar Quilt Pattern which will of course include the designs for all 12 blocks, then please <a href="http://forms.aweber.com/form/97/143359697.htm" target="_blank">CLICK HERE</a> (no obligation to purchase) and I'll let you know when it's released. </b><br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<b><span style="color: #cc0000;">And thirdly ....</span> </b>because now I'm feeling better we managed a proper walk, taking in the beach en route. So perhaps Blue Monday isn't so bad after all ... let's ask Ben ....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lWzy1UTAtkM/TxRa8P09plI/AAAAAAAADMo/Mm0JvZD2H1s/s1600/Image5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lWzy1UTAtkM/TxRa8P09plI/AAAAAAAADMo/Mm0JvZD2H1s/s400/Image5.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
What do you think of Blue Monday Ben? </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LVMbVlhsgVY/TxRbenr46yI/AAAAAAAADM4/FpwOwImINRg/s1600/Image6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LVMbVlhsgVY/TxRbenr46yI/AAAAAAAADM4/FpwOwImINRg/s400/Image6.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Blue is good any day Mum!!</div>
</div>Helenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07428082800675241347noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1725169637555911547.post-22160029629418822972012-01-12T17:15:00.001+00:002012-01-12T17:16:39.898+00:00In which I am not better...<div style="text-align: justify;">Thank you so much everyone who sent me their best wishes for a speedy recovery. I am sorry I have not responded to you individually but that is because unfortunately I am not making a speedy recovery. I am sure Rosie would tell me that my immune system is becoming less efficient due to my advanced(!) age... Never mind ... Ben persuaded me to take him down to Lannacombe beach earlier and I am sure that the fresh air and wellie boot full of sea water will have done me good! </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VH41jCDxqaI/Tw8RkBPFQxI/AAAAAAAADMQ/WGoIC64hmtc/s1600/025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400px" kba="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VH41jCDxqaI/Tw8RkBPFQxI/AAAAAAAADMQ/WGoIC64hmtc/s400/025.JPG" width="313px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">However, I have been enjoying some gentle knitting - my little bunny now has his jumper - though I haven't made an alternative fabric top for non-knitters yet - maybe tomorrow .... </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DCa22-SjETM/Tw8RnDO1ufI/AAAAAAAADMY/BeXhCLJZrFw/s1600/last+6+months.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="258px" kba="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DCa22-SjETM/Tw8RnDO1ufI/AAAAAAAADMY/BeXhCLJZrFw/s400/last+6+months.jpg" width="400px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">As I haven't any new work to show you today, I thought I'd give you a quick sneak preview of the work I have been doing on my Rosie & Bear quilt. I have been busy mounting the embroideries in 10" squares from a Moda Layer Cake (this one's Flora by Lauren and Jessi Jung) using reverse applique. Then I've set them into 13.5" blocks ready to piece into the full 12-month quilt. More to follow soon ... plus photos of the remaining blocks that will (at last) complete the set. </div>Helenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07428082800675241347noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1725169637555911547.post-37578190234466219452012-01-10T17:49:00.000+00:002012-01-10T17:49:20.811+00:00Sniffle snuffle... poor sore nose ...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8QODn3R6y_g/Twx4jE789pI/AAAAAAAADMI/jgm5c6xnGGg/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400px" kba="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8QODn3R6y_g/Twx4jE789pI/AAAAAAAADMI/jgm5c6xnGGg/s400/009.JPG" width="363px" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">I have a cold. A horrid snuffly sort of cold that has arrived with a tickly cough attached. And although I am not very ill I am certainly very miserable. My nose is sore as I have blown it so many times and my head aches from too much coughing. So I have settled myself on the sofa with a large box of tissues and some knitting. I find knitting very comforting when I am unwell. At the moment I am making a little jumper for my new bunny softie pattern - which will be included in this month's Bustle & Sew magazine. He has a little pair of trousers which I think you can just see, and I'm also going to include a fabric top. But not today, perhaps tomorrow when hopefully I'll be feeling a bit better.</div>Helenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07428082800675241347noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1725169637555911547.post-78265233766534767382012-01-06T18:30:00.003+00:002012-01-06T18:40:54.513+00:00Free Ipad/Laptop Sleeve pattern<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OoMm71gW2aI/Twc2NsQ2zSI/AAAAAAAADLw/eT0Ooy-gN4A/s1600/023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360px" rea="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OoMm71gW2aI/Twc2NsQ2zSI/AAAAAAAADLw/eT0Ooy-gN4A/s400/023.JPG" width="400px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I was very lucky this Christmas and birthday to be given a lovely ipad - I have wanted one forever!! (OK not forever, but it sort of felt that way). And of course a well-loved ipad needs a nice, safe, cosy home to snuggle down in when it's out and about with its owner. So I made it a new home - machine applique (with tiny touches of hand embroidery - the ladybird and bumble bee) - lined with the softest angora/lambswool mix felted woollen. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RUZRP_qeQus/Twc3fsliNjI/AAAAAAAADMA/uyk0pjMfF_Q/s1600/Image2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="245px" rea="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RUZRP_qeQus/Twc3fsliNjI/AAAAAAAADMA/uyk0pjMfF_Q/s400/Image2.jpg" width="400px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">It has a little pocket on the back to hold my wireless modem thingy and a button closure to stop it from slipping out.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q1Tn5fgrhIM/Twc3XPHcPqI/AAAAAAAADL4/7VFN50ltiTM/s1600/Image3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="270px" rea="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q1Tn5fgrhIM/Twc3XPHcPqI/AAAAAAAADL4/7VFN50ltiTM/s400/Image3.jpg" width="400px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">And I kept to freestyle machine embroidery/applique so the sleeve would be very hard wearing. After all it will have to compete for space in my bag with all sorts of other things .... purse, phone, tissues, glasses in case, old tickets, slightly sticky toffees, a biscuit or two for Ben, keys ...etc ..etc .... I've just added a tiny hand embroidered ladybird and bumble bee - couldn't resist!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">This pattern is a gift for all readers of my <u><strong>free</strong></u> newsletter ... so if you'd like to receive this pattern and you're not currently on my free newsletter list, then you can join by clicking on the bear in the right hand sidebar and your pattern will be sent to you straight away.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Hope you like it! </div>Helenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07428082800675241347noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1725169637555911547.post-27123276621666003142012-01-04T19:01:00.000+00:002012-01-04T19:01:37.549+00:00Spring is in the air - free pattern for you!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-R48kZT7ErfE/TwSe1war-YI/AAAAAAAADLU/FNxc9zEIdKw/s1600/hyacinth+image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400px" rea="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-R48kZT7ErfE/TwSe1war-YI/AAAAAAAADLU/FNxc9zEIdKw/s400/hyacinth+image.jpg" width="291px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Today I took the Christmas decorations down and packed them all carefully away ready for Townie Husband to put in the loft next time he's down (we have bats and spiders in our loft and I am not very brave about the spiders!). Then I gave the living room a good dust and hoover, removing huge piles of Ben's fluff from the corner where the tree was standing - proof, if any was needed - that he had spent a good deal of time inspecting the presents beneath! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">In spite of the gales presently howling around the house I am beginning to feel just a little bit spring like now the decorations are gone, so I have dusted down, re-written and re-uploaded one of the first free designs ever from Bustle & Sew - the Hyacinth in a Teacup. (the picture at the top of this post) It's a very simple design, with just a little applique and easy stitches - but does look very effective when finished. If you'd like it, then you can <a href="http://issuu.com/bustleandsew/docs/hyacinth_in_tea_cup_pattern?mode=window&viewMode=singlePage" target="_blank">download it from here for free</a>. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DAQLJBsgPqk/TwShLy_vD3I/AAAAAAAADLo/uljYJjjioTM/s1600/004a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="287px" rea="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DAQLJBsgPqk/TwShLy_vD3I/AAAAAAAADLo/uljYJjjioTM/s400/004a.jpg" width="400px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I am also busy with a new machine applique design for newsletter readers - which I am hoping to be able to send to them by the end of the week. Again it's full of spring colours .... but I suspect we've a lot more winter to come before I see flowers like these in my garden again! </div>Helenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07428082800675241347noreply@blogger.com14
